Chapada Diamantina
VALE DO PATI – 3 DAYS AND 2 NIGHTS
DURATION: 03 DAYS
DISTANCE: 42 KM
DIFFICULTY: INTERMEDIATE
START: Guiné Village (municipality of Mucugê)
END: Guiné Village (municipality of Mucugê)
Day 1: Mirante do Pati and Gerais do Rio Preto
Departure from Lençóis at 6:00 am heading to Guiné (2-hour drive), the village where we will begin the trek. From here, we enter the valley and only return to the car at the end of the third day: 3 days without phone signal. The trail starts around 8 am with a steep 30-minute ascent (Subida dos Aleixos). After the climb, we walk along an amazing flat stretch through Gerais do Rio Preto, where we will cross the Rio Preto river and may take a refreshing bath before continuing to the Mirante do Pati, one of the most breathtaking viewpoints of the valley. After a generous picnic prepared by our guides, including freshly brewed coffee, we descend the Rampa and head to the local residents’ houses.
Day 2: Morro do Castelo + Lapinha Cave + Funil Waterfall
We leave the native resident’s house after breakfast and hike up Morro do Castelo, a steep ascent that will take us to Lapinha Cave at the top. We cross the cave using flashlights and exit at Mirante do Castelo, with an incredible view over the entire valley. We descend the hill and return for another dinner with the locals and rest.
Day 3: Cachoeirão from above + Prefeitura Crack
After breakfast, we visit Cachoeirão Waterfall, which has a height of 280 meters — an impressive and beautiful place. It will be a long day: we walk around 20 km and finally return to the entrance to pick up the car and head back to Lençóis.
What do we eat?
* Typical Northeastern breakfast: eggs, bread, fruits, couscous, tapioca, coffee.
* Picnic lunch: bread, cheese, ham, tomato, carrot, salad, fruits, biscuits and coffee.
* Dinner: rice, beans, pasta, vegetables, meat, salad.
We can adapt meals for vegetarian or vegan diets.
Where do we sleep?
The local residents’ houses where you will sleep in Vale do Pati are a very special part of the experience. Only 14 families live scattered throughout these mountains, without phone signal or electricity, welcoming hikers with affection and good conversation. It is a great opportunity to learn about their customs and way of life. The rooms include a bed, clean sheets, blanket, pillow, towel, and shared bathrooms. The water they use comes directly from natural springs in the surrounding mountains, so showers are cold. Rooms may be individual or shared depending on availability.
